JOB DESCRIPTION: Vice President of Product Management

 

Overview:

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) www.hmlt.hmco.com,  a leader in K-12 print and digital educational content, seeks a Vice President of Product Management to join its Rolling Meadows, IL (suburban Chicago) office.

 

We are currently seeking a seasoned technology product management executive who has extensive experience in implementing new product initiatives, defining market requirements, developing product roadmaps, identifying partner requirements and leading all aspects of digital product delivery. This position focuses on the management of the company’s K-12 technology platforms, which serve the company’s core digital curriculum. This group works in close cooperation with the company’s Curriculum Portfolio and Digital Research & Development group in the planning and execution of K-12 tools and technologies that support and promote differentiation in the delivery of core curriculum, and leverage the company’s strong heritage in education. The Position The Vice President of Product Management, K-12 Platforms reports to the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Product Management. The ideal candidate is an experienced product management leader who understands how to steer new products through an entire product lifecycle, and has experience in K-12 management. The Vice President of Product Management is responsible for defining the product roadmap by evaluating, analyzing key customer needs and trends, working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, and identifying and prioritizing feature sets and technology recommendations to promote a high value customer experience. This individual is has in-depth familiarity with the K-12 market and possesses a strong understanding of assessment, learning management and related systems to the student and teacher experience.

 

Responsibilities:

• Own the product roadmap for the K-12 digital platforms, with support for new curriculum and supplemental programs that blend print and digital experiences • Partner with portfolio management and product development group to manage feature sets and best practices, guiding decisions around value differentiation and likely business models for delivery • Own the product requirement definition and feature identification for horizontal platform initiatives, including documentation of prioritized feature sets and use cases, prototyping and testing. Includes educating liaising with teams on direction and recommendations that tap into new delivery models for learning • Develop and direct the incorporation of new tools and technologies that augment the core curriculum experience – including delivery through e-books, curriculum management, lesson plans, etc. • Collaborate with business unit stakeholders to drive the prioritization, planning and ongoing monitoring and improvement of the K-12 platform – from product management through development, delivery, hosting and go to market. • Develop go-to-market strategies, positioning, pricing, collaboration on marketing campaigns with K-12 leadership • Develop metrics and ROI across all aspects of the platform to ensure feature and product effectiveness, and scalability near and long term. • Manage a team of experienced product managers

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technology or business discipline with qualifications in product management; master’s preferred. • 10 years proven and demonstrable experience in a senior product management role with emphasis on technology solutions • Detailed Technology Product Management experience • Must have worked in a software development environment; preferably with some experience in education technology • Ability to prioritize among competing opportunities, balance business priorities and articulate the rationale behind decisions • Proven ability to advocate a feature or product direction, and present market facts and data to back the position • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving, written and oral presentation skills • Must be resourceful, self-motivated, and able to be successful in a non-traditional entrepreneurial team-based environment • Demonstrated ability to meet or beat assigned targets and deadlines consistently • Creative individual who is creative, diligent, driven, detail oriented, and dedicated Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is an Equal Opportunity employer with a proud commitment to diversity.
